On getting work done.
Thomas Sanlis
Hey everyone!
I have much more to say than yesterday, yay 😊! The day was quite typical and pretty uneventful though.
This morning, I spent a good hour reading at the hotel breakfast. It wasn't too crowded, and it feels good to take your time at the start of the day.
I then spent the morning working at the villa, and (for once) talking with other residents, who gave me lots of great advice about something I can't talk about yet hehe 👀.
In the afternoon, I decided to go back to the hotel for a couple of hours, I needed a change of environment to get back to work, and to be alone for a bit!
Tonight, Rob did another livestream, and Marc Lou was there!! If you haven't seen it, click here!
Today, I'd like to answer a question I often get asked about the hacker residency: do I manage to get a lot of work done?
It's an interesting question. The idea of this residency is to put a bunch of entrepreneurs together in a room, close the door and see what happens, right?
Plus, distractions are kept to a minimum: we don't have to worry about cooking, we're far from everything, etc.
Logic would suggest that conditions are perfect for working, and that our productivity should multiply, right?
Well... 🥁
Not quite! 😂
What I'm going to talk about here is extremely personal and related to my personality: each of us is experiencing this moment differently, and would probably have a different take.
The Hacker Residency hasn't really increased my productivity. But to tell you the whole truth, I was expecting this, and it's not at all why I came 😬.
I rarely have trouble getting down to work. After all these years working alone (freelance and indie hacking), I've gotten used to it, and I'm able to work a lot without too much difficulty.
I didn't come here to improve my productivity, but to learn, and live a new experience.
For the first time in my life, I'm surrounded by people who do the same thing as me, who are specialists in many fields that interest me, and who have the same founder, indie hacker mindset.
And that is priceless.
Also, it feels less pointless building virtual stuff on your laptop when everyone around you is doing the same 😂.
On top of that, it's a unique experience: I'm in an incredible villa on the other side of the planet with people I don't know 😂!
Be careful though: we work a lot!! Don't think for a second that we're twiddling our thumbs all day.
On that note, I'll leave you, I'm going back to the pool.
See you tomorrow,
Thomas
PS: goal for tomorrow, take more photos so I have something to show you haha
