Hacker Residency: Day #13

Salmon croissants, work/life balance, productivity destroyed.

Heyyy 👋🏻

Today was a bit of a peculiar day: I didn't sleep super well, and even though my morale was good, I was a bit low on energy and didn't work much.

After a pretty unproductive morning, I decided to head back to the hotel for a nap haha, and then something completely crazy happened…

There's a quote from Kyan Khojandi that I love (I'll translate it):

Bref (anyway), I had nothing to do. So I did what everyone who has nothing to do does: I went on the Internet.

I don't know if you've heard about this new Apple TV series, Pluribus?? A friend recommended it to me recently (thanks Axel), and I decided to give it a try. If you haven't watched it yet, do it haha, it's incredible, and it’s directed by Vince Gilligan, the guy behind Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad 😭! AND, the main character is played by Rhea Seehorn, the actress who played Kim in Better Call Saul!

Anyway, I took a nap, watched the first episode and disconnected a bit from work.

And then a little before 4pm, I got a message from Lilian (she's running a mental health community on Discord, remember?): "focus session in 30min!" 😂

It motivated me, I joined the session, and boom!! I worked really well for 45 minutes, so I decided to go back to the villa to keep the momentum going.

I was super productive for another 45 minutes, and then…

Brian posted a message asking who wanted to go get burgers (THANKS BRIAN 😂)…….. 🤦🏻

No choice, I went! The burgers were really good, but… I’m sorry but I have to show this to the french people who are reading this blog:

Aside from this sacrilege, we had a good evening, I stuffed myself, we walked a bit on the beach before heading back, then I wrote this post…

Tomorrow will be more interesting, we have a special guest in the afternoon, and the Friday social in the evening 🫡!

Quick aside: I noticed something interesting (I hope it'll interest you 😂)! In my daily life, I complain quite often that nobody around me understands what I do every day, and that therefore I have nobody to talk about it with.

During this hacker residency, I have sooo many people to talk about projects, indie hacking, dev etc with, it's great and that's what I came here for!

But there's also a downside: we never get away from work.

I miss hearing my friends tell me about the latest joke someone played on them at the coffee machine, about their cat getting into mischief, or having a board game night!

I think I realized that we need both to have balance.

So that was my philosophical reflection for the evening, see you tomorrow friends 👋🏻
